Leland Kids Club, 'goes to England'

The video creation of four local youth was chosen from 238 entries to be
featured at the Cooperative Young Film Makers Festival in England.
Entries for the festival came from England, Ireland, and the United
States.

It was the only US entry selected for the festival!

The students are Ian Duvall, Jason Potter, Katie Staudacher and Michael
Stachnik. When they made the video last Spring, the students were first,
first, second and fourth graders respectively.

The one-minute video, entitled "How Dinosaurs Became Extinct", was
created as part of an after-school activity of the Leland 4-H Kids Club.
The students created a clay animation video under the direction and
guidance of 4-H volunteer Ken Scott. The students wrote their own
script, made the sets, molded the figures, animated the storyline and
read the narration.

The reviewing panel rated highest those videos with imagination and a
good story or concept. The panel complimented the students on their
energy and enthusiasm.

The video will be on the big screen in the palatial Pictureville Cinema
at the national museum in Bradford, England on Saturday, October 12. The
Cooperative Young Film Makers is the United Kingdom's largest film and
video organization dedicated solely to showcasing the work of young
people.

This project was possible thanks to a grant to the Leelanau 4-H Youth
Program by the Leelanau Women's Foundation, Chamber Arts North.
