Squeegie and Bob, a claymation video created collaboratively by
students in Suttons Bay, Michigan, and Littleton, Colorado, recently took
third place in the Sixth Annual East Lansing Children's Film Festival.
The video was animated by students in the Suttons Bay Middle
School Animation Club, using a script written by members of the Teen Writers
group at the Bemis Public Library in Colorado.
The 90-second video follows two friends as they argue and then
patch up their friendship.
Working with author Constance Hardesty, the teens wrote and
edited the script. They sent the script to photographer and videographer Ken
Scott, the advisor of the Suttons Bay Middle School Animation Club. Students
in the club spent several hours creating the scenery and clay "actors," then
shooting the video frame-by-frame.
Scott, a well-known photographer, has published several books of
regional photography, including Leelenau and Charlevoix. Hardesty is widely
published in literary journals and popular magazines, and is the author of
the children's gardening cookbook Grow Your Own Pizza. This is their first
collaboration.
