South Manitou Light

1839 - 1958

2008 -  Forever!

For nearly 120 years, a Light on South Manitou Island guided the early mariners of Lake Michigan to safe harbor and secure passage.  As these intrepid souls plied the open waters, enduring tempests, fog and gales, the Light was there. Then suddenly, the Light was extinguished. And for 50 years this proud sentinel has stood in the darkness, awaiting the time of its rebirth.

That time is now, here is a unique way to help:

In collaboration with the Manitou Island Memorial Society, regional photographer Ken Scott, has produced a unique photographic series of the

South Manitou Island Light.

With the purchase of a timeless Ken Scott photograph, only available through this project, one hundred percent of the profits supports the restoration of this historic beauty. Thank you for caring. Thank you for being a witness to history. Together we will re-light this shining beacon—the once and future jewel of the Manitou Passage—The South Manitou Light.
